The project is structured like a real laboratory: the entire project works like a laboratory experiment under real life conditions. The elements of the experiment are composed of:

1. the pilot plant

2. the information and experience space and

3. the integration of user perspectives.

These three components of the real laboratory make it possible to develop optimal solutions that can be transferred to other locations. The pilot plant is to be built at the Environmental Campus Birkenfeld, Trier University of Applied Science. The plant serves as a demonstrator for the specific processes of nutrient recycling where the system will be tested. The pilot plant is therefore the laboratory test on a larger scale. The infrastructural, organizational and logistical requirements for the construction will be prepared by the end of the third project year.

An information and experience spyce is to be set up near the pilot plant. Interested visitors can find out more about the project and get an insight into how the pilot plant works through "transparent production".

The local people, especially decision-makers and residents who are directly involved, are specifically involved through dialogue events. Their point of view is a very important contribution to the planning and establishment of nutrient partnerships in the region. It is desirable that partnerships develop into a long-term alliance. That is why the perspectives of relevant future users of the new technologies are given special attention.
